Two Research Group Leaders: Faculty Job Opening in Political Science or Sociology

Édité le 15 Septembre 2011

The Max Planck Society and Sciences Po Paris are planning to establish a Max Planck Sciences Po Center on Coping with Instability in Market Societies, a German- French center in the social sciences. Located at Sciences Po Paris, the center will be jointly directed by these two institutions. Its research will concentrate on investigating how individuals, organizations and politics are coping with the increased instability that has developed in Western societies during the last forty years due to liberalization policies and cultural shifts.

Research at the center will be chiefly conducted by two research group leaders. We are seeking two social scientists from the field of political science and sociology to direct the two groups. Research group leaders will receive funds for their own research and for three doctoral students. At the beginning, the positions will be funded for five years, with further funding depending on a positive evaluation of the center after four years. The specific field of research is still open and will depend on the research program proposed by the candidates.

Basic qualifications

Successful candidates must have completed their dissertation with distinction and gained at least four years of further research experience, but the position is open to candidates at all levels of seniority. The salary is negotiable and will depend on the experience of the candidate.

The Max Planck Society and Sciences Po are equal opportunity employers. We aim to increase the percentage of women in positions where they are underrepresented and are committed to employing more people with physical challenges, who are strongly encouraged to apply.

Interested candidates with questions about the position or the research content are invited to contact Jens Beckert, Director of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne, or Christine Musselin , Director of the Center for the Sociology of Organizations at Sciences Po Paris.

Application procedure

Candidates are invited to submit a letter of interest, a CV with a list of publications, a five-page outline of a research project proposal oriented to the goals of the center, proof of education and previous employment and two letters of reference. Combining all documents into a single PDF file, please send your application electronically to Vincent Morandi by 15 October 2011.
