Etienne Nouguez about the Levothyrox

Etienne Nouguez researches how “healthcare markets” are institutionalized. By looking at the interactions between political actors, experts, industry players, healthcare professionals, and consumers, he aims to simultaneously reveal the processes by which therapeutic actions and products are described and the dynamics at play for structuring their markets. His work draws from economic sociology, the sociology of healthcare, and the sociology of public action.

After completing a dissertation on the origins of the French market for generic drugs, he conducted two successive studies, one on the intervention of private actors in the field of obesity prevention and the other on the use of classification tools in the field of mental health.
He is currently working on “markets for health claims,” and in particular on markets for foods which make health claims.

Thanks to these different research avenues, he will be better able to apprehend the social processes which facilitate or create stumbling blocks for the translation of health-value into market value.
